‘there is genuine interest’: Spurs ‘at the front’ of the queue to sign £20m-rated midfielder

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the move for the Blackburn Rovers midfielder Adam Wharton.

The 19-year-old has established himself as a key player for the Championship club and his performances have been rather impressive in the second division of English football.

His displays have caught the attention of the North London club and Dean Jones has revealed to Give Me Sport that Tottenham have a genuine interest in signing the player. He also added that they are at the front of the queue to sign the 19-year-old.

“So there is genuine interest in Wharton. I’d have said previously that if there was a queue for him, then Tottenham would have been at the front of it [before the Crystal Palace interest]. Blackburn really don’t want to lose him right now and they would much prefer they came back for him in the summer if they’re going to do that.”

The midfielder is reportedly valued at £20 million as per the report and Tottenham certainly have the financial muscle to secure his services. However, a move in January seems unlikely and Tottenham will probably look to make their move for him at the end of the season.

There is no doubt that the North London outfit need a quality central midfielder and Wharton certainly fits the profile. He will help out defensively and control the tempo of the game from the deep. The midfielder has the potential to play for the biggest clubs in the country and a move to Tottenham would be the ideal step up for him.

Regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development and help him fulfil his his tremendous potential. Ange Postecogou could also play a key role in his growth as a footballer.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have been linked with other midfielders like Conor Gallagher as well. Wharton is likely to be a cheaper option compared to the Chelsea star.
