‘the transfer has paid off’: Player reveals how Tottenham move has transformed him

By Saikat -

German international striker Timo Werner has opened up on his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur and how it has transformed his life as a player.

The 28-year-old striker has revealed that he is enjoying his time at the North London club and Tottenham have managed to bring back the fun in his game once again.

He said to Philipp Hinze: “The fun has completely returned. I’ve changed a lot as a person, I’m much happier now. After just five games, you can tell that the transfer has paid off for me. But the season is still long. I want to build on my first performances. Just the fact that I’m playing in our stadium has already made the transfer worthwhile. It’s impressive.”

Werner was having a tough time at RB Leipzig and he needed to leave the German club to play regularly and get his career back on track. It seems that he is enjoying his football under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

The Australian has employed a free-flowing attacking approach at the North London club and Werner has already produced a couple of assists in the Premier League. He has not been a regular starter for Tottenham, but he has proven himself to be a very useful squad player so far. He will hope to hold down a regular starting spot in the coming weeks.

Tottenham have an option to sign the player permanently at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether he can impress sufficiently and convince the club hierarchy to trigger the buyout option.

Werner was severely criticised during his previous spell in the Premier League with Chelsea. He struggled to score goals consistently and was lacking in confidence at Stamford Bridge. He did however win the UEFA Champions League trophy with them.

The German international will hope to win a trophy with Tottenham as well. The North London outfit have not won a trophy for quite some time and the fans and the players will hope that Postecoglou can end the wait.
