‘The manager won’t be happy’: Tim Sherwood slams Tottenham duo after Villa defeat

Tottenham Hotspur lost to Aston Villa in the Premier League at the weekend and they will be disappointed with their performance against the Westlands club.

The North London outfit have now lost three Premier League matches in a row and manager Ange Postecoglou will be under pressure to get them firing on all cylinders again.

Tottenham made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign and the recent results will have sucked the momentum and confidence out of their game. They are currently struggling with a lack of confidence. A number of injury problems have contributed to their decline in form and it remains to be seen whether they can get their season back on track.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has now slammed the performance of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Ben Davies against Aston Villa. He believes that the two players stood still as Aston Villa exploited gaps and spaces around them.

He told Premier League Productions (26/11/23 at 4:15 pm): “Davies there, if he was van de Ven or Romero, as soon as Ollie Watkins there to the right comes off him, he would have come with him.

“But Hojbjerg has to shield. He has to be talking to him saying ‘step a couple of sides to the left. That ball can’t get played to Ollie Watkins’.

“If that was van de Ven or Romero, we can’t cry over spilt milk because they are not there, but they would have got Ollie Watkins. They would have stopped it at source before they would have played the ball off to Tielemans.

“The manager won’t be happy with that. He wouldn’t want them to have that amount of time on the ball.”

Both players needed to be more proactive in their defending and they allowed players like Ollie Watkins the space and time to cause substantial damage to Tottenham.

Hojbjerg has not been a regular starter for Tottenham this season and he seems to have fallen out of fever at the club. He has been linked with a move away from the club, and judging by his performance against Aston Villa, he does not have long left at the North London club.

As far as Davies is concerned, he is a squad player for Spurs and Postecoglou will hope to have his first-choice central defenders back in the starting lineup soon.
