Report claims Tottenham will make move for attacker despite setback

Timo Werner in action.

Tottenham’s loan signing, Timo Werner, will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury.

The German international sustained the injury during Spurs’ recent 2-3 defeat against Arsenal last weekend, leading to his substitution for Brennan Johnson.

Werner’s injury comes as an unfortunate setback, potentially marking his final appearance in a Lilywhites jersey.

In January, Spurs secured a loan deal with RB Leipzig for Werner, which includes an option for a permanent transfer worth €17 million before the start of next month’s European Championships.

While uncertainty looms regarding Spurs activating the buy option clause, German outlet BILD suggests it’s possible that Spurs will make the purchase.

Since signing, Werner has delivered performances that have been quite decent, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists in his 13 Premier League appearances.

Earlier reports indicated that the Stuttgart academy product has expressed a keen desire to remain with the Lilywhites next season and has already informed his close associates of this intention.

However, the ultimate decision lies with Tottenham’s hierarchy, particularly Ange Postecoglou.

Werner’s promising performances on the left side of the attack would undoubtedly lead the Australian head coach to contemplate transforming a temporary loanee into a valuable long-term asset for his squad next season.
