A possible glimmer of hope for the weekend is that Andros Townsend is thought to be in contention to feature against The Swans.
Swansea have has a mediocre season so far. They currently sit 13th in the league, 7 places behind us, some 19 points behind us. A fact that Laudrup fanboys still seem impervious to.
Tim says of Townsend…
Andros backs himself to be better than anyone else in the world, that’s the sort of character he is…wherever you put him on the pitch he will try and take people on. …also, other players can learn from Andros at how direct you can be at times, as there’s no point playing safe. The kid doesn’t know how to play safe. He wants to put people on their backside and he does it a lot of times.
He needs to slow himself down on his shooting, and he knows that, but he’s probably one of the most two-footed players in that squad.
He cuts in from the left and shoots with the right, and he does the same on the other side. He’s probably more accurate on his right side than he is on the left.
The need to get Townsend to “play safe” isn’t to be sniffed at. This season, the boy’s shot accuracy rate is 53%. He’s made 30 shots on goal. 16 were on target, 14 were not.
He’s scored just once.
Nobody wants him to stop having a go, but clearly he needs to give greater thought as to when the opportunity to shoot ought to be taken, or whether when it would be more advantageous …to lay on a pass that could improve the chances of the team as a whole.
If he is stronger on his right, then there is a good argument to play him on the right offensively. But that argument is scuppered by the outstanding job that Azza Blud is doing defensively in the same position.
So if Bonzo and Andros were just a little bit ….
If ifs and ands were pots and pans, there’d be no need for tinkers’ hands.”
