“That is why you need a world class goalkeeper. What a save that was. Brilliant.” Lloris save gets some fans talking

Tottenham earned a point on their travels to West London to face Chelsea yesterday afternoon.

The Lilywhites headed to the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Manchester City in their last Premier League game.

That win placed them at the top of the Premier League table ahead of this weekend.

After Liverpool failed to beat Brighton at the Amex yesterday, Spurs needed just a draw against an in-form Chelsea team to remain top of the standings.

Jose Mourinho’s men earned the draw that they needed, even though they would have wanted more.

It took a fine performance from all of their players to get the point, but Hugo Lloris is probably the reason why Spurs didn’t suffer a defeat from a late goal.

On the 81st minute, Mason Mount received a fine pass and shot towards the bottom right corner, it should have been a goal, but Lloris dived well and conceded a corner from a fantastic save.

Some Spurs fans praised him on Twitter, here are some reactions:

As you may recall I was at the Lane against Wolves when Big Pat saved a corner taken by Ken Wagstaffe with one hand!!
Saving plenty of shots with his legs where his undiminished aura for both club and country and respected by everybody in the game amongst all fans makes him one of the all time greatest keepers ever.

Imagine how embarrassed he would be if The Giraffe became No1. Nice work Jose.

He wouldn’t have been called upon to make the save in the first place if LoCelso (Lazy) who had only been on the pitch for 15 mins had made a better effort to keep up with and prevent Mount (tireless display) and who had played the full 80mins, dribbling past him without making a tackle, any wonder he has only started one game in the PL this season, I am sure it will have be noted by Jose,as was his efforts against Antwerp. Great save Hugo. Big Pat was world class.

Oh the ups and downs of the trevails of a Goalkeeper, one moment hailed as the best in the world, the next pilloried by it’s own supporters for making a silly error.
The truth with Lloris probably lies somewhere between the two mixing excellent saves (like the one yesterday) with the occasional blemish. He is a good keeper but not the best keeper we ever had which IMO belongs to the imperious Pat Jennings.
As to whether Lloris should be handed the captains armband is another storey.
