Spurs player called back interested club 2 minutes after receiving WhatsApp message

By Mehdi Gokal -

Bayern Munich’s chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has shed light on the behind-the-scenes talks that led to the transfer of Harry Kane from Tottenham to Bayern Munich.

According to Rummenigge, Kane’s approach during the talks went “against the norm”.

The transfer saga went on for over two months before Tottenham agreed a fee with Bayern.

But throughout the saga it was reported that Kane was keen on a move and already agreed personal terms with the German club.

Rummenigge shared that Kane maintained open communication and was always available for discussions, even when he was on vacation.

In an interview with Bild, Rummenigge said:

“We all agreed in our transfer committee from day one that we wanted to make this transfer. Everyone then had their job, and mine was to keep in touch with Harry a lot. I talked to him a lot and immediately realized what a good guy he is.”

Rummenigge further revealed that he initiated contact with Kane while the player was on vacation in the Bahamas.

He highlighted Kane’s swift response and willingness to engage in discussions as unusual in today’s time.

“I had the first contact when he was still on vacation in the Bahamas.

“I wrote him that I would like to talk to him on the phone and he – as always later – answered within just two minutes, which is not the norm in the WhatsApp messenger world either.”

Rummenigge also conveyed his commitment to Kane, assuring him that Bayern Munich would go to great lengths to secure the transfer.

“We will do everything to make this transfer happen because we all believe that you are the most important man in the entire transfer market for us.”

Rummenigge also narrated to Kane about his own transfer to Inter Milan back in his playing days, drawing parallels between his own situation and Kane’s situation.

Despite the cup defeat to RB Leipzig on his debut, Kane has had a great start to his Bayern career, scoring 3 and assisting 1 in 3 games.

TBH Says:

It is unusual for a club chief to reveal what went behind the scenes to secure a mega transfer but then again, the German club’s approach to secure Kane’s signing was never normal to begin with.

It now appears that the open and cooperative approach from Kane during the negotiations seems to have played a big part in securing a successful move to Bayern Munich.
