Atletico Madrid goalkeeper John Oblak is reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper is nearing the end of his contract at Wanda Metropolitano and Tottenham are looking to bring him in as a replacement for club captain Hugo Lloris.

The French international goalkeeper is in his twilight years and it makes sense for Spurs to start planning for a future without him.

Oblak has been exceptional for Atletico Madrid in the Spanish league and he will be available on a free transfer at the end of this season. So far, Atletico Madrid have not made any efforts to renew his contract and the player will be eligible to secure a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs during the January transfer window.

A report from Fichajes claims that the Spanish outfit will demand a fee of around €30 million for the Slovenian international and Tottenham must do everything in their power to snap him up.

The report claims: “The clubs that have shown interest in signing the Slovenian goalkeeper are Manchester United, who are closely following him to replace David De Gea, and Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking for a goalkeeper who can replace Hugo Lloris”.

He is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world and signing a player of his calibre for the reported asking price could prove to be a masterstroke from Daniel Levy and Tottenham.

The Slovenian has performed at a high-level consistently and he would have no problems settling into the Premier League and making an immediate impact at the London club.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs are willing to fork out the asking price for Oblak when the transfer window reopens in January. Alternatively, they could agree on a pre-contract deal with the player for him to join the club when the season is over.

Would be a great signing if this were remotely true. Can’t see it though.
