Southampton ‘fitting the profile and interested’ and Levy favours Championship move

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham is looking to send Djed Spence out on loan this summer and are in hunt for the ‘right destination’ for the young right-back.

That’s according to Football League World, who claim that the club believes Southampton are ‘fitting the profile and interested’ in signing the player on loan.

Southampton, now under the management of Russell Martin, are expected to contend for promotion and are expected to adopt a possession-oriented style of play. This aligns with Spence’s profile and makes Southampton an attractive prospect for the loan move.

It claims that Spence believes he is ready to play in the Premier League and will need to be ‘convinced’ that Southampton are the ‘right fit’ for him.

Arsenal who have lost new signing Julien Timber to a long-term injury are reportedly considering a move for Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters as an emergency replacement. And the report claims that Spence could be the replacement for him if he leaves for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are also interested in loaning Djed Spence as they were back in January and Spence would rather prefer a move to a Premier League club as he believes he is ready for Premier League football.

The 23-year-old joined Tottenham at the start of the last season for a fee of around £20m. However, despite his potential, Spence has not been allowed enough playing time to showcase his abilities.

His signing occurred under former manager Antonio Conte, who later clarified that Spence was a club signing rather than his personal choice.

With the subsequent signing of Pedro Porro in January, Spence’s playing time at Tottenham became further obstructed.

As Tottenham looks for the best developmental path for Djed Spence, his future could be shaped by the right loan destination. Whether he agrees to go to a Championship side or not remains to be seen.
