Souness warns Levy Tottenham fans will be “up in arms” if he appoints 50-year-old manager

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Brendan Rodgers after the 50-year-old manager was recently sacked by Leicester City.

The North London club were still looking to bring in a quality long-term replacement for Antonio Conte and Rodgers is reportedly on their wish list.

Former Premier League midfielder Graeme Souness has now warned Daniel Levy that the fans will be unhappy with the appointment if he decides to bring the former Liverpool manager in.

While Rodgers has done a decent job at clubs like Swansea, Liverpool and Leicester City over the years, Tottenham should look to aim higher.

Souness said (h/t HITC): “Brendan Rodgers could have his name attached to relegation if Leicester were to go down. Is that a fit for Spurs? Spurs supporters will be up in arms about that.”

Spurs have an impressive squad at their disposal and they should be able to challenge for major trophies with a couple of quality additions during the summer transfer window. They should look to bring in a manager who is capable of winning major trophies.

Rodgers is not a proven winner and he could prove to be an underwhelming acquisition.

Tottenham have been linked with managers like Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann in recent weeks.

Enrique has won major trophies including the Champions League with Barcelona and Nagelsmann has proven his quality in the Bundesliga with the likes of RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich. He won the league title and two domestic cups with Bayern.

Tottenham have been in disappointing form this season and they are likely to miss out on Champions League football next year.

The fans are clearly unhappy with Daniel Levy right now and the Tottenham chairman should look to bring in a quality manager in order to appease the fan base.

Furthermore, key players like Harry Kane are being linked with moves away from the club and a quality manager could convince the England international to continue at the London club.
