“shut his mouth” – Pedro Porro brutally responds to former Tottenham manager’s criticism

By Mehdi Gokal -

Pedro Porro has brutally responded to former manager Tim Sherwood’s previous criticism of him.

The Spaniard joined the club from Sporting Lisbon after weeks of negotiations in January for an initial loan deal of around £5m with an obligation to buy for £39m in the summer.

His debut was against Leicester City and the new signing did not have the best of games which drew some very harsh criticism from former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood.

In his role as a pundit on Sky Sports, he ripped into the debutant for his performance. He said:

“I don’t want to keep picking on the kid but he needs to be relieved of his duties at the moment.

“I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt because it’s his debut but Pedro Porro is so bad it’s unbelievable.

“His positioning is disgusting, Barnes and Maddison are destroying him down the left hand side. He’s just ran inside him, he hasn’t even seen him, he gets the ball played in and lets him run inside him.”

The comments were extremely harsh on the full-back considering he had only just moved to a new club in a league where normally players need to time adapt to the physicality of the game.

Porro has constantly been working on and off the pitch to improve and adapt to the league. Apart from on-ground training, he is also taking English lessons to improve communication.

And the hard work is starting to pay off. He has been incredible for Spurs in the last few games. He scored his first goal for the club with a rocket against Southampton and had provided his first assist the week before for Kane against Nottingham Forest.

And after his run of brilliant performances, Pedro Porro has hit back at Tim Sherwood claiming that made him “shut his mouth”.

When asked about Sherwood’s comments, Porro responded in an interview with The Guardian, saying:

“It doesn’t annoy me, exactly. You know people will have their opinion, they’re going to say you played badly, that you’re no good or whatever. You try not to even notice, but it’s impossible.”

“I really hope he keeps saying bad things about me that will make me stronger. But it’s true that it made an impression because I had been at a big club for so little time and well… Let me loose in a prison and I’ll end up owning the place.”

“It’s a couple of days, I start against Leicester. What do you want? For me to score five and cut out 70 balls?!

“Anyone can have a bad day. From there, I just keep on: take English classes, get into the group, adapt.”

“For me, it makes no difference. I don’t know him. I don’t know what had happened for him to speak.

“People passed it on, saying he had spoken badly about me. But he won’t be the first who then had to shut his mouth.”

Porro’s response has been impressive, and his performances on the pitch have silenced any doubters. His added threat from the right-hand side has been a welcome addition to the team, and Spurs will be hoping that he can continue to perform at this level for the rest of the season.
