“Shouldn’t be starting” – Pundit brutally singles out two Tottenham players after Fulham defeat

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a significant upset against 12th-placed Fulham, who secured a convincing 3-0 victory over them on Saturday.

The Lilywhites came into the game following an impressive 4-0 victory against Aston Villa last weekend. And they had a chance to go ahead of Aston Villa in fourth place with a win over Fulham but failed to capitalise on the opportunity.

Former Villa forward and talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor singled out two Tottenham attackers, Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson, suggesting that they are not of the required standard to start for the North London outfit.

Meanwhile, Werner, who entered the game for the final 24 minutes, squandered a clear-cut opportunity shortly after his introduction. From just two yards out, he missed what could be described as an absolute sitter.

Speaking on talkSPORT (8:09 pm, March 16, 2024), Agbonlahor called out both the players highlighting that speed on the pitch can occasionally result in hasty decisions or poorly timed actions.

He said (quotes via HITC):

“Similar to Werner, sometimes Mudryk as well. Sometimes when you get these quick players, they can make the wrong choice at the wrong time.

“Like I said earlier, a couple of weeks ago, Johnson and Werner shouldn’t be starting for a team that want to be fighting for the league title, if Spurs want to do that. They should be players on the bench to come on.

“He should have, like, Kulusevski on the right, Son on the left and a top number 9 upfront.”

The defeat is a significant blow for Tottenham but Aston Villa’s draw against West Ham today means the race for top 4 is not over yet. But Ange’s side can not afford any more slip-ups.
