“serious consideration to a move” – Journalist claims 52m star would be open to a move to Spurs

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur target Marcus Edwards has told GiveMeSport that he would give “serious consideration” to returning to the north London club.

The Sporting Lisbon winger has been rumored to be considering a return to the Tottenham team and O’Rourke has stated he is open to the idea.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Tottenham are planning to sign both Edwards and his teammate Pedro Porro from Sporting.

Edwards has a release clause of £52m in his contract, but the report mentioned that Tottenham still have a 50% sell-on clause in his previous transfer agreement.

As per The Telegraph report, due to the sell-on clause, Tottenham can potentially re-sign Edwards for the reduced price of £26m.

O’Rourke believes that Edwards would be eager to return to Tottenham.

He stated in an interview with GiveMeSport that Edwards would give serious thought to moving back to Tottenham. He said:

“Marcus Edwards would give serious consideration to a move back to Tottenham.

“Obviously, he did very well against them in the Champions League this season, and I think the whole point of him leaving England in the first place to go to Sporting Lisbon was to get first-team football and to prove himself with the ultimate goal of probably coming back to England.”

Edwards is having an outstanding season with Sporting, as evidenced by his statistics. He has made 10 goal contributions so far scoring five goals and setting up five more for his teammates in just 16 league appearances.

He was also impressive against his former club when the two teams met in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

During Sporting’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham at home, Edwards was a constant threat to the opposing team, giving Antonio Conte’s men difficulty throughout the game.

The Sun’s Tom Barclay commended Edwards for his performance, specifically noting how easily he was able to outplay Eric Dier during the match.

Edwards could be a great signing for Spurs, who would be able to make an impact in the final third and perhaps add a touch of creativity in the team too. He would not cost Spurs a lot of money either due to their sell-on clause.
