Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has claimed that midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is desperate to get involved with the team again.

The club received a major injury boost yesterday as Bentancur was pictured in the pre-training warm-up.

The Uruguay international has not played since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in February against Leicester City.

He was perhaps one of Tottenham’s best players last season if not the best before his unfortunate injury.

The midfielder has been working hard behind the scenes to recover from the injury.

He took the next step in his rehab as he joined the Tottenham players in the warm up ahead of the training session on Thursday.

And Ange Postecoglou was asked how important it was for the player to get a warm-up session with the boys.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, earlier today, he said (via Football London):

“It is. A couple of weeks ago he came barging into my room wanting to start in the team.”

” Rehab — talk to any player — that’s a tough thing. It’s not that you have to do the work.”

” It’s the solitary element of it, where you’re not with the group. Just having him do the warm-ups and him being involved, he was buzzing yesterday.”

“Then he was fairly dejected when we pulled him out after the warm-up. It’s good. It’s fair to say, he’s still got a fair bit of work to do.”

“But great to have him involved, and I guess that just encourages him a bit more. It’s great to see.”

TBH Says:

He is not expected back until early November but what a big boost his return would be for us.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have become the preferred duo right now for Ange and Sarr has done extremely well so far.

However, Bentancur, Bissouma and James Maddison could potentially become one of the strongest midfields in the league.
