Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in the Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo.

The 26-year-old has been linked with the move away from the Spanish club, and bitter rivals Real Madrid are also interested in him, as per Fichajes. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham follow up on their interest with an official proposal to sign the player.

Tottenham could use Ronald Araujo

Tottenham could use more depth in the defensive unit, and the Uruguayan International would be a quality addition. He is at the peak of his career, and he could make an instant impact. He could compete with Cristian Romeo and Micky van de Ven for a starting spot.

Additionally, he can slot into a back three alongside them. His arrival will not only add more quality to the Tottenham defensive unit, but it will also give them greater tactical flexibility.

It remains to be seen whether they can beat Real Madrid to his signature. The Spanish giants are regarded as the biggest club in the world, and beating them to his signature will not be easy. Tottenham should look to move quickly in order to get the deal done. Barcelona are going through financial difficulties, and they could listen to offers of around €50 million.

Can Spurs convince Araujo?

Tottenham certainly have the financial muscle to pay. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds.

Araujo has been labelled as a “very good” defender by Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old will look to compete at the highest level and fight for trophies regularly. Tottenham will have to convince him of their ambitions.

The reported asking price is reasonable for a player of his quality in today’s market. He could justify the outlay in the coming seasons.
