Report: Ange Postecoglou wants to sign £40m Premier League star who is unhappy at the club

Tottenham are among the clubs interested in signing Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte as per latest reports.

Daily Mail previously reported that Manchester City will be willing to let Aymeric Laporte leave the club if he desires to do so.

Laporte has had a limited role at Manchester City this season, starting only twelve league games.

He joined the club from Athletic Bilbao for £57 million but has been unhappy with his lack of playing time.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Laporte admitted uncertainty about his future at the club and expressed his disappointment with the challenging season he has had.

He is said to be unhappy with this current situation at the club having fallen down the pecking order with the likes of Nathan Ake, John Stones, and summer signing Manuel Akanji all above him.

According to 90min, the Spanish centre-back is looking to leave Manchester City in the summer, and both Aston Villa and Tottenham are interested in signing him. The report suggests that Laporte could cost around £40 million.

Barcelona and other European clubs are also said to be interested in securing his services.

Tottenham will be in the market to sign at least one centre-back if not more, and now that the managerial situation is sorted out, one can expect the club to become active in the transfer market.

Ange Postecoglou is known for his attacking, attractive style of play and he will be looking for ball playing centre-back who can help build the play from the back. Laporte’s ball-playing abilities and experience could make him a suitable addition to the team.

It is yet to be seen whether Tottenham will make a move for Laporte, but acquiring him could be a shrewd move considering his potential cost and the quality he would bring to the squad.
