Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks.
A report from the Mirror claims that the 27-year-old has been told to leave the club at the end of the season and clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham have been alerted to his availability. The report further claims that the player’s agents will seek talks with Tottenham at the end of the season.
Apparently, the defender will cost £17.5 million and Spurs can certainly afford to sign him.
The North London giants have Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic as their left-sided wingbacks. They could certainly use an upgrade in the summer.
Perisic is in his twilight years and Sessegnon has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot since joining the club.
While Mendy has been quite inconsistent at Real Madrid, he can be a top-class left-back on his day.
If the 27-year-old can get over his injury problems and iron out his consistency issues, he could be an important player for Tottenham in the coming seasons.
The reported £17.5 million asking price could also look like a bargain.
Mendy has been a part of the Real Madrid squad that has won the league title and the UEFA Champions League over the last 12 months.
He has the winning experience and the mentality to play for a big club. Tottenham could certainly use someone like him in the dressing room.
The North London outfit will be hoping to end their wait for the trophy in the coming seasons and signing a proven winner like Mendy would be a step in the right direction.
