Real Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat is all set to watch Cristian Romero in action during the North London derby.
Cristian Romero has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League with his consistent performances. The Tottenham centre-back has done wonders for Argentina at the international stage and his work has resulted in a significant amount of interest from across Europe.
Real Madrid are one of the clubs that have been linked with the former Atalanta centre-back for some time now and their chief scout will be watching him in action on Sunday.
According to Defensa Central via SportWitness, Juni Calafat will travel to London and be present in the stands to watch the North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal. The Real Madrid head scout will be keeping a close eye on Romero who is quite high on the Spanish giants’ wishlist.
Los Blancos are looking to reinforce their backline with David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger on the wrong side of 30. They feel the Argentine centre-back could be the perfect fit for their project. The Madrid-based club were linked with him during the summer but Tottenham did not seem keen on negotiating his departure.
The North London club consider him an integral part of their plans moving ahead and with three years still left on his deal, they are in a comfortable position. Recent reports suggest Spurs are pushing to renew his contract and will open talks before Christmas.
While Calafat will be travelling to London and will be in the stands watching Madrid’s priority target in action, it doesn’t change the fact that Daniel Levy considers Romero to be one of the pillars of their new project under Ange Postecoglou and only a crazy offer will make him think about cashing in on the World Cup winner.
