The Dragusin saga came to an end today, with the Romanian center-back choosing to join Tottenham Hotspur over Bayern Munich.
Both clubs had deals agreed with Genoa and the final decision was for the player to make. And while many thought he would go with the Bundesliga giants, the 21-year-old chose Spurs.
The centre-back’s decision to opt for Spurs over the German club came as a surprise to many. At one point, it seemed that the Bundesliga giants had a strong chance of securing the player.
But, having already agreed personal terms with Tottenham, Dragusin stayed true to his commitment and decided to go to North London.
And his mother’s comments from a few months back would explain why the Romanian international joined the club.
In an interview with AS in November, his mother, Svetlana Dragusin, admitted that playing in the Premier League had always been Dragusin’s childhood dream. She stated:
“I wish for him to reach where he set out to (go to).”
“And he really wants to reach England. This is his childhood dream.”
While a path to winning trophies might have seemed smoother in Germany, especially with Bayern, Dragusin’s warrior-like personality on the pitch extended to his real-life decision, as he willingly embraced the challenge of competing in the highly competitive English top flight.
