Tottenham Hotspur signed Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest last summer.
The 23-year-old has been a useful player for the North London club, but popular pundit Simon Jordan believes that he is unlikely to become a top-class player in the near future. Jordan feels that Johnson lacks the composure and the decision-making of a top player.
He told talkSPORT (29 May, 11 am): “My first reaction is he’s an honest player. He will give you his best. But he is a speedboat without a brain.
“He came (to England in 2020) with a reputation of being a goalscorer. But we saw what he was like at Chelsea. I didn’t see any material improvements at Tottenham.
“Brennan Johnson is a work in progress. There are parts about Brennan Johnson that worry me, that he’s never going to be the full package.
“There is a composure that the top players have, to be able to stop themselves in a moment in get it out of their feet. He doesn’t seem to have that. Everything seems to be in a hurry. We’ll see if (he) can develop.”
The former Nottingham Forest winger has not been a regular starter for Tottenham this season, but he has managed to pick up 15 goal contributions. It will be interesting to see if we can continue to improve and hold down a regular starting spot at the north London club.
Tottenham paid £47.5 million to sign the player last summer and they will hope that he can develop into a key player for them in the coming season. Johnson clearly has the technical attributes to become a very important player for Tottenham, but he will need to work on the mental aspects of his game. It remains to be seen whether he can fulfil his tremendous potential.
The player is clearly not the finished article right now, but he has the potential to improve further. It will be interesting to see if Spurs can nurture him carefully and work on his deficiencies in the coming seasons.
There is no doubt that he is a talented player with huge potential and he could make a big difference for Tottenham in the final third if he can work on his decision making and composure in the near future.
