Pundit claims player Tottenham sold is now ‘best in world football’ in his position

By Mehdi Gokal -

ESPN pundit Don Hutchinson has heaped praise on former Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier, hailing him as the “best right-back in world football” at the moment.

Trippier spent several years at Tottenham, contributing to the club’s impressive run to the Champions League final in 2019.

However, he was transferred to Atletico Madrid in 2019 and played a pivotal role in their La Liga title-winning campaign.

In 2022, Trippier made his return to English football, joining Newcastle United. Since his comeback, he has emerged as one of the standout players for the Magpies as they experienced a resurgence under new ownership.

Trippier played a crucial part in helping Newcastle secure qualification for the Champions League last season.

He played a key role in helping the Magpies qualify for the Champions League last season and has been a consistently performing at the top level from the right-back position.

Don Hutchinson, selecting his Team of the Season so far for ESPN, placed Trippier at the forefront of the right-back position, declaring him the best in the world.

Hutchinson’s lineup also featured several other Tottenham players, including James Maddison, Destiny Udogie, and Micky van de Ven.

He told ESPN: “Best right-back in world football, Trippier.”

Tottenham struggled in the right-back position since letting Trippier go and never managed to replace him until signing Pedro Porro in January who looks to a decent signing.

He may not be the best defensively but it is something he is working on and has improved. Offensively he is up there among the best adding a new attacking front for Spurs from the right hand side.
