Potential boost for Tottenham as they remain among final two contenders to sign Premier League star

Tottenham remain a strong contender to sign Brentford’s prolific striker, Ivan Toney.

According to Matt Hughes of The Sun, Spurs and West Ham United are the two clubs still competing for Toney’s signature, with Brentford now willing to accept less than £50 million due to a lack of interest from other major clubs.

The report claims that Premier League giants including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United have all communicated their lack of intention to bid for the England international, narrowing the competition to Tottenham and West Ham.

Toney’s journey with Brentford began in August 2020 when he signed a five-year deal with the Championship club for a fee potentially rising to £10 million with add-ons.

He made an immediate impact, setting a Championship record with 31 league goals in the 2020-2021 season and playing a crucial role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League by scoring in the play-off final against Swansea City.

In the 2022-23 Premier League season, Toney showcased his talent in the top flight by scoring 20 goals in 33 appearances, positioning himself as the third-highest scorer behind Erling Haaland and Harry Kane. (Transfermarkt)

Toney was recently included in England’s 26-man squad for UEFA Euro 2024. He made his tournament debut in the round of 16, assisting Harry Kane’s winning goal against Slovakia. In the quarter-final against Switzerland, Toney scored a no-look penalty in the shootout, helping England secure a 5-3 victory.

As Tottenham consider their options, Toney’s proven goal-scoring ability and international experience make him a valuable target for strengthening their attacking lineup.
