“Postecoglou likes him a lot” – Fabrizio Romano makes interesting claim about 23-year-old strongly linked with a deadline day move to Spurs

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur have been chasing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher since the last summer. However, it has now been revealed that no effort has been made to pursue him this month.

Conor Gallagher has been the top priority for Spurs for quite a while, and speculations leading to the deadline day suggested that the Lilywhites might make a move for him on the final day.

Nevertheless, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has refuted any indication of movement from the North London outfit for Gallagher during the January transfer window.

Even though Tottenham prefers the Englishman, and Ange Postecoglou is a big admirer of the player, Romano confirms that they have not initiated any discussions with their London rivals for the midfielder this month.

He shared the update on X:

“No movement around Conor Gallagher so far, not just today but same during the entire January window.

Tottenham appreciate him, Postecoglou likes him a lot but #THFC never opened talks with Chelsea this winter.

Gallagher, staying at #CFC with contract due to expire in 2025.”

The attacking midfielder has less than 18 months left on his Chelsea contract, which will expire in June 2025.

No news has surfaced regarding an extension for the player, but head coach Mauricio Pochettino has been actively working behind the scenes to convince the club to keep Gallagher.

The 23-year-old has proven to be a vital member of his set up, featuring in the starting XI for all 21 available games.

The Argentine manager is adamant about retaining the club’s academy graduate at Stamford Bridge, deeming him a crucial component of his strategic plans.

However, the club’s hierarchy are said to be open to selling Gallagher to align with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

However, for such a move to materialise, Spurs would need to present an offer to be considered. And that is unlikely now that Hojbjerg has decided to stay at the club for the rest of the campagin.

Any potential move will now have to wait until the summer.
