Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has poured cold water on speculation linking Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher with a move to Spurs.

With first-choice keeper Guglielmo Vicario sidelined by a fractured ankle, Tottenham could be forced to explore their options in the January transfer window, but Robinson believes Kelleher is not a realistic target.

The Irishman has been vocal about his desire to leave Anfield in search of regular first-team football, but Robinson insists Spurs would not be an ideal destination, with Vicario firmly established as the club’s No.1.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said:

“They won’t spend that money because Kelleher wants to go somewhere and be No.1. Vicario is the No.1 at Spurs, so they won’t see the need to spend money.

“Liverpool have made forward plans for the future with Marmadashvili coming in, which is a clever signing, so Kelleher won’t want to go somewhere and fight for his place.

“It’s a bit of a non-starter, in all honesty.”

Fraser Forster holding the fort in Guglielmo Vicario’s absence

In Vicario’s absence, veteran goalkeeper Fraser Forster has stepped up, showcasing his reliability during Tottenham’s ongoing injury crisis.

However, with Forster turning 37 next year, manager Ange Postecoglou may need to secure a younger long-term backup option to strengthen the squad for the future.

Spurs rurn attention to John Victor

While a move for Kelleher appears unlikely, Tottenham have reportedly set their sights on Botafogo’s Brazilian goalkeeper John Victor.

The 28-year-old has been garnering interest from European clubs, and Spurs have reportedly already reached out to the Brazilian side to discuss his availability and potential transfer terms.

Victor, who is under contract with Botafogo until 2027, could be on the move amid uncertainty about his future.

Reports suggest Botafogo expect offers for their shot-stopper in the coming weeks, making him a viable candidate for Spurs as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options.

With Kelleher’s desire for a No.1 role ruling him out of contention, Spurs appear to be shifting their focus to other targets like John Victor.

For now, Tottenham will rely on Forster to navigate the busy festive schedule, but reinforcements in January may prove crucial as the club aims to maintain its push for a top-four finish.
