Tottenham Hotspur have significant plans for their recent signing, Lucas Bergvall.
The talented midfielder, who joined Spurs on the final day of the January transfer window, is set to be integrated directly into the first team next season, according to club insider Paul O’Keefe on the Last Word on Spurs podcast.
The club signed Bergvall from Swedish club Djurgardens IF for €10 million, signing a five-year contract with the Lilywhites.
Despite strong interest from Barcelona, the 18-year-old chose Tottenham, eager to showcase his skills in the Premier League.
Originally, there were plans to introduce Bergvall through the club’s academy, gradually promoting him to the senior side.
But it was said that he made an instant impact on those at the club with everyone left impressed by him, resulting in reports that he may not be loaned out next summer, and instead, will be involved with the first-team.
This has now been reiterated by the reputable club insider Paul O’Keefe as well, who claims that the teenager is now set to compete for a first-team spot immediately.
O’Keefe said (1:11:04 onwards):
“Yeah 100%! Everything I hear is that he will be integrated straight into the first team next season. There’s no other plan at the moment…”
“He gave a brilliant impression from what they’ve managed to see so far. They haven’t seen much of him but obviously people that have dealt with him have high hopes for him. He will be integrated next season is what nearly everyone is saying.”
Bergvall, who will arrive in North London on July 1st, has continued his season on loan at Allsvenskan.
This year, Bergvall played in 19 games across all competitions, accumulating 1506 minutes, scoring six goals, and providing five assists.
As Bergvall prepares for the challenges of the Premier League, Spurs fans eagerly anticipate how the young star will adapt and excel in England’s top flight.
