Romano confirms Spurs ‘sent their people’ to watch €45m striker with 38 goals – could be available in January

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update regarding Tottenham’s links with Feyenoord striker Santiago Giminiez.

Last week Romano reported that the Mexican striker is someone Tottenham ‘appreciate’ with the club sending scouts to watch him play recently.

He claimed that the club continues to monitor the player for now but at the moment there have been no negotiations.

As per his latest update, Romano claims that Spurs are continuing to follow him amid strong links.

He also mentioned that despite links, Chelsea might not be prioritising Gimenez in their transfer plans. The London club appears to be focusing on other potential players instead.

He said (via Caughtoffside):

“We continue to have rumours about Santiago Gimenez, who is doing very well at Feyenoord – rumours about Chelsea and about Tottenham, but from what I can tell you, Tottenham sent their people to follow Gimenez multiple times, he’s going very well and scoring goals, but at the same time I’m hearing Chelsea are not making him a priority and are focusing on other players.”

“Chelsea know the situation well, that Gimenez could be available for around €45m in January, but at the moment nothing concrete is ongoing”

“It’s also important to say that Tottenham keep following the player, so that could be one to watch as it looks like Gimenez could be an important player on the market in the near future.”

Amid reported interest from major European clubs including Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan, Tottenham’s consistent tracking of Gimenez indicates a keenness to explore the possibility of securing the striker’s services.

The Mexican international has scored 38 goals and assisted 6 in 60 appearances for the Dutch club since joining the club last summer.

In his debut season for Feyenoord, he scored 15 goals and assisted 3 in the league. This season he has already scored 13 league goals and assisted 3 other in 12 games.

As Gimenez continues to impress and draw attention with his prolific displays in front of goal, his potential availability in the upcoming transfer windows could spark further interest and competition.

Signing the 22-year-old Mexican striker would be a significant statement of intent for Tottenham, especially if they manage to outcompete several top clubs vying for his signature.
