New Tottenham signing slammed as ‘arrogant’ by countryman in bizarre criticism

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur successfully secured the long-awaited signing of defender Radu Dragusin in January, fending off last-minute competition from Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich.

The Lilywhites finalised an agreement with Genoa for the talented young centre-back, securing his services on a six-year contract for a fee of €25 million, with an additional €5 million in add-ons.

It was reported that the player opted to choose Spurs over Bayern Munich to fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.

However, former Romanian footballer Marcel Raducanu has criticised the centre-back for picking the North London outfit as his destination after leaving Genoa.

Speaking to Radio Romania Actualitati (via Romania outlet AS), the former attacking midfielder expressed his belief that the 22-year-old rushed to join Tottenham when he should have remained at the Italian club.

Raducanu also made some surprising claims, stating that Bayern Munich never really made an offer for him.

He said:

“A lot of teams are waiting for the Euros. I don’t think they rush like Tottenham did with Dragusin. I’m glad he’s playing now and he did well in the last game, but you saw that it took him a few games too, where he was on the sidelines.

“He should have stayed at Genoa. It would have been better for him to play as a starter until the end of the season. Then offers come by naturally. I think he was a bit hasty. Let’s be honest! He didn’t have any offers. Bayern, if they want a player, they take him immediately. We’re not discussing it. Those were rumours, hearsay.

“I know for a fact he didn’t get an offer from Bayern. Or if he did, which I don’t think he did, he’s either arrogant or naive. How can you refuse Bayern? You can’t. It’s impossible, you can’t do that.”

Dragusin is yet to start a game for Tottenham but has made 4 appearances off the bench. However, he is expected to be handed his first start this weekend against Fulham after Micky van de Ven got ruled out of the match.

TBH Says:

That is a lot of unnecessary noise from a former player. Dragusin’s agent made it clear that there was a solid offer from Bayern Munich and the player turned it down as he wanted to play in the Premier League.

And considering the state of Bayern Munich this season, looks like he made the right choice!
