Josko Gvardiol is a name that is increasingly being mentioned in football circles, with the young Croatian defender making a name for himself with his performances for RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.

Gvardiol’s solid displays at the back have not gone unnoticed, as a number of top clubs across Europe have been linked with a move for the 21-year-old, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool.

The 21-year-old’s ability to read the game, his physicality, and his pace have been impressive, making him a formidable presence in defence.

Gvardiol’s performances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar for the Croatian national team were a standout, catching the eye of top clubs across Europe.

His ability to play at the left side both, left back and centre-back adds versatility to his game, making him a valuable asset for any team.

Tottenham Hotspur Hotspur have been one of the clubs heavily linked with a move for Gvardiol, with reports suggesting that the North London club is monitoring the Croatian’s progress.

However, Gvardiol’s release clause of £85.7m makes it unlikely for Tottenham to pursue him, unless there is a change in ownership.

Tottenham have been linked to a Qatar-based takeover and has recently garnered interest from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Gvardiol, as they look to strengthen their defences.

In an interview with The Times, Gvardiol revealed his desire to play in the Premier League, stating that it’s his goal in his career.

He had the option to join Leeds United, but he chose RB Leipzig because it would help him take a few more steps before reaching his goal.

He said:

“I had two options, between Leeds and Leipzig. [Marcelo] Bielsa was the coach and I don’t know if you know this but my goal in my career is to play in the Premier League.”

“I didn’t speak with Bielsa but of course he sends a few people and they came to Zagreb. I met these guys and they show me it was something like a plan how they see me in their style of football. I mean, when they presented it everything looked good and you could maybe see yourself there in that moment.

“I knew that I needed to take a few steps more before I get [to the Premier League] one day. At the end Leipzig is a really good club and I feel good here. It’s important I play almost every game.”
