‘Much better than Bellingham’: Former Spur says €18.5m ace should have joined Tottenham

By Saikat -

German champions Bayern Munich signed Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax at the start of the season.

The 20-year-old midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular starting berth at the German club and he has been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich in recent weeks.

The Germans paid €18.5 million to sign the prodigious young talent, but he has struggled to win over the trust of his manager so far.

Gravenberch was regarded as a top-class talent during his time at Ajax, but his development has stalled because of the lack of regular football. The midfielder has made just three starts across all competitions this season.

Former Tottenham fan favourite, Rafael Van der Vaart has now revealed (h/t Voetbal Primeur) that the 20-year-old is much better than Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham in terms of talent and he should have joined Tottenham Hotspur.

“I think he is much better than Bellingham in his talent. Only Bellingham plays every week and Gravenberch does not have that chance to show it.

“(A move to Dortmund) or Tottenham Hotspur (would have been better). European sub-top sounds so negative, I think. Because I still think those clubs are great. You have to have an intermediate step now and then to really show how good you are.

“If you see him walking, upright. He can score, give assists. I think he is much better than he can show at Bayern.”

Regular game time at the North London club would have helped the 20-year-old develop into a better player.

Tottenham could certainly use more quality and depth in the middle of the park, and it remains to be seen whether they try and sign the Dutch international midfielder in the coming months.

Gravenberch is undoubtedly a prodigious young talent with a big future ahead of him. If Bayern Munich cannot provide him with regular game time, he should look to leave the club for his own benefit.

He was linked with a move to the Premier League before he moved to the Bundesliga and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.
