Tottenham Hotspur could push for the services of their former academy player Marcus Edwards.
Marcus Edwards’ future at Sporting CP is uncertain as manager Ruben Amorim is not happy with his recent performances. The 25-year-old has been reduced to the bench and hasn’t been able to make his way back into the starting XI.
According to a report from O Jogo via SportWitness, Edwards is open to a return to the Premier League and Tottenham are the ones interested in re-signing him. The North London club want more depth in attack and their former youth product could be an ideal fit for the club.
Things didn’t work out for him at Spurs in the past as he failed to break into their first team. The move to Portugal allowed him to get his career back on track. The English winger contributed to 15 goals (six goals, nine assists) last season. He was a regular starter under Amorim in the first half but a dip in form resulted in him getting benched during the second half of the season.
Although he hasn’t been in great form, there is still interest in him from England and he could leave the Portuguese club to try his luck in the English top flight once again. The player has never hidden his desire to return to his home country and his former club have been linked with him heavily.
The North London club would get a 35% discount if they do knock on Sporting’s door for the player. They have a sell-on clause inserted into the player’s contract.
The 25-year-old is versatile enough to operate on either flanks and he can slot into the attacking midfield role as well. He could prove to be a valuable acquisition for the North London club for a reasonable price this summer. His ability to slot into multiple roles could make him a valuable asset during injuries and rotation.
