Tottenham are looking for a quality replacement for Antonio Conte after parting ways with the Italian manager earlier this season.
They have now been linked with a move for the Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti. The 64-year-old has guided Napoli to a league title this season and he could prove to be an ambitious appointment for Tottenham.
According to Paolo Bargiggia via Area Napoli, the Italian manager has a contract with Napoli until the summer of 2024 and Tottenham have submitted an important proposal to lure him away from the Italian club.
Napoli are keen to hold on to him for the long term, but Spalletti is likely to earn more money at other clubs.
“How many percentages are there that Luciano Spalletti stays at Napoli? They told me 50% and I was quite surprised. I was convinced that it was at least 70%, but whoever told me this is certainly a reliable person. There is no conversation between Spalletti and De Laurentiis to plan,” he said.
“Why did the manager release certain statements [Napoli exercising one year extension], proving to be rather cold on the hypothesis of a renewal? The problem is that the Tuscan had an important proposal from Tottenham. Spalletti earns €2.7m a season, elsewhere they can guarantee him a very high salary.”
The 64-year-old’s attacking football at the Italian club has attracted a lot of praise this season and he could prove to be an exciting appointment for Tottenham.
The North London giants have not won a trophy for a considerable period of time and a move to Spurs could be a challenge similar to when he arrived at Napoli.
Tottenham will hope that the 64-year-old can guide them to a major trophy if they can secure his signature.
Tottenham have a talented squad at their disposal and there is no reason why they cannot compete for trophies with the right manager.
Spalletti’s attacking football could be a good fit for Tottenham, given the attacking talents at their disposal. The fans will also prefer a manager like Spalletti who plays progressive football.
