Angel Gomes has been linked with a return back to the Premier League and multiple clubs are keen on securing his signature.
Manchester United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign the player, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
According to a report from Give Me Sport, the 24-year-old LOSC Lille midfielder wants to join Tottenham despite the interest from his former club, Manchester United. Gomes made his Premier League debut with the Old Trafford outfit, but he failed to establish himself as an important first-team player for them.
He managed to establish himself as an indispensable asset for Lille in Ligue 1 and he is on the radar of multiple clubs now. The 24-year-old could prove to be a quality acquisition for Tottenham if they can get the deal done. They need more creativity and control in the middle of the park, and the England International certainly has the quality to improve them.
The player will be a free agent in the summer and he will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this month. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can convince him to join the club on a free transfer. If they manage to get the deal done, it could prove to be a major bargain in the long term.
Paul McGuinness, Gomes’ former Man Utd youth coach has likened him to the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in terms of style of play.
He revealed to Sky Sports: “A Frenkie de Jong who can receive the ball off the back four and then move away, use disguises and so on”.
Meanwhile, Manchester United need more quality in the midfield as well, and it is no surprise that they are looking at their former youth prospect. The fact that he wants to join Tottenham over them will certainly become a major blow for the Red Devils.
