Luka Vušković, the 18-year-old Croatian centre-back widely regarded as one of Europe’s top young defensive talents, is currently on a season-long loan at Hamburger SV (HSV) in the Bundesliga from Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have firmly rejected enquiries from several major clubs, including Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, emphasising that Vušković is a key part of their long-term plans.

Internal discussions are ongoing at Spurs about potentially recalling him in January (a clause allows this during a specific window), partly to deter further interest and integrate him as potential depth behind players like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

His breakout performances at HSV—including standout goals (like a sensational scorpion kick) and consistent starts—have accelerated interest from top clubs, but Spurs view him as non-transferable.

This situation highlights how quickly Vušković has progressed since joining Spurs in the summer 2025 (after a pre-agreement in 2023), with his loan intended for development but now sparking a potential early return. No final decision on a recall has been confirmed yet.

Tottenham Hotspur have built one of the most exciting youth pipelines in Europe, with several highly-rated prospects drawing comparisons to Luka Vušković in terms of hype, early senior exposure (often via loans), and attracting interest from top clubs.

Here are some of the most similar or standout young talents as of late 2025:

Mikey Moore (17, Winger/Attacking Midfielder) Moore is a homegrown academy product who’s already made first-team appearances and is considered one of the premier talents in his age group. Like Vušković, he’s featured on Goal’s NXGN 2025 wonderkids list and has been fast-tracked with senior minutes.

Archie Gray (19, Midfielder/Full-back). Versatile and composed, signed from Leeds with massive potential. He’s integrated into the first team quickly and was also on the NXGN 2025 list, mirroring Vušković’s status as a long-term key player.

Lucas Bergvall (19, Central Midfielder) Swedish star signed from Djurgården, known for his technical ability and vision. Another NXGN 2025 inclusion, he’s been easing into senior football with bench roles and growing influence.

Will Lankshear (20, Striker) Prolific goalscorer from the academy, often on loan for development (recently at clubs like West Brom). Draws Harry Kane comparisons for his finishing; high expectations for a first-team breakthrough.
