According to the latest report in the Portuguese outlet Record, Tottenham are ‘set to hold talks’ with Sporting manager Ruben Amorim.
The report states the club will schedule a meeting for the end of the season so he’s not distracted from his current job at Sporting Lisbon.
He has a release clause in his current contract with the Portuguese club which is said to be around £17.5m. The report as relayed by TeamTalk, adds that if the talks go well, Spurs could trigger the release clause to hire him.
Sporting are currently fourth in the Portuguese league but they have a chance to finish higher in the table with 6 games left. They have also had a great run in Europe having beaten both Tottenham and Arsenal in the Champions League and Europa league respectively.
Their good relationship with the Sporting having recently signed Pedro Porro could also help them during negotiations if they decide to make a move for him.
Despite his relatively young age of 38, the former Portugal midfielder has been making waves as a coach who excels in developing the skills of promising young players.
His adeptness in working with emerging talents has earned him a growing reputation, which could potentially make him a strong contender for the Tottenham managerial role.
