Journalist confirms defensive duo are targets for Spurs boss Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol at the start of the season.

However, the transfers did not materialize in the summer, and Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas has now revealed that Tottenham have not abandoned the chase for the two defenders.

It will be interesting to see if the London club are willing to follow up on their interest with a concrete offer at the end of the season.

Gvardiol has been one of the best young defenders in the world this season and he was outstanding for his country in the World Cup as Croatia finished in third place.

On the other hand, Alessandro Bastoni has established himself as a key player for Inter Milan and Antonio Conte knows all about the player having worked with him during his time at the Italian club.

It Is no surprise that Tottenham are still looking to improve their defensive department.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, and Clement Lenglet have been largely underwhelming this season and Lenglet is expected to return to his parent club at the end of the season.

Improving the defense should be a top priority for Antonio Conte and it will be interesting to see if Spurs can bring in the likes of Bastoni and Gvardiol at the end of the season.

The Italian manager prefers to play in a three-defender formation and the two players could form an exceptional partnership with Cristian Romero at the heart of the defense.

Meanwhile, Spurs have been linked with the number of wing backs as well and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in an upgrade on players like Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.
