Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott in recent weeks.
The midfielder is thought to be valued at £25 million and a number of Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on him.
Scott was outstanding for Bristol City in the Championship last season and he could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for Tottenham.
However, journalist Dean Jones believes that Tottenham might not be in a position to invest £25 million on a squad player and they should look to bring in players who are ready to make an impact on the first team.
Scott is undoubtedly a talented player with immense potential, but he is a long-term prospect and Tottenham will have to be patient with him if they decide to sign him.
Jones believes that he wouldn’t get into the Tottenham starting lineup initially and he might be on the bench for the whole season.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “Anyone I speak to about Alex Scott says that as good as he is, as good as he can become, he wouldn’t get in the Tottenham team at the moment.
“So, for £25m at the moment, should Tottenham really be going for signing a player that’s going to be on the bench, certainly for the early stages of the season and possibly for the whole season? Probably not.
“I’d say that that’s probably it. If Daniel Levy hasn’t got a massive transfer kitty for next season anyway, to spend £25m on a sub probably isn’t a great idea.”
Tottenham need to bring in reinforcements in the central midfield, but they have already signed James Maddison who will add creativity and goals to the side. Signing Alex Scott probably does not make a lot of sense right now and Tottenham should look to invest in a midfielder controller instead.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in recent weeks and they should concentrate on replacing the Denmark international with a top-class player.
