Italian media reveals the actual reason behind the confrontation between Tottenham manager Cristian Stellini and Roberto De Zerbi

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham’s match against Brighton on Saturday was a thriller, with Spurs ultimately securing a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Heung-min Son and Harry Kane. However, the match was not without its controversies and dramas.

Brighton had the ball in the net on two occasions, but both goals were disallowed by VAR. The team also had a legitimate penalty claim denied, which added to their frustration.

The match was also marred by a pre-match confrontation between managers Roberto De Zerbi and Christian Stellini, with De Zerbi appearing visibly upset during the handshake.

The game saw a bench-clearing altercation between both teams after VAR disallowed Danny Welbeck’s goal for handball. This led to both managers being sent off for failing to control their respective benches.

According to a report from Il Corriere della Sera (via Football Italia), the reason behind the confrontation between De Zerbi and Stellini was due to comments made by the Tottenham manager in the media.

Stellini had claimed that De Zerbi’s success at Brighton was due to the work of his predecessor, Graham Potter, which did not sit well with the Italian.

Despite the controversies, Tottenham emerged victorious, which will undoubtedly boost the team’s morale as they aim to secure a top-four spot in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Brighton’s impressive season continues, with the team currently sitting in 7th place in the table with a good chance of qualifying for Europe next season.

His success with the Seagulls has made him a wanted man with the likes of Inter as well as Tottenham linked with a move for him.
