By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur are in a transfer battle with Barcelona for the promising Swedish talent, Lucas Bergvall.

The Catalan club and Spurs are currently engaged in a duel to secure the services of the teenage midfield sensation.

According to Peter Kisfaludy, the chief youth director at Djurgarden, Lucas Bergvall and his family are facing a tough decision regarding his next destination.

Kisfaludy also mentioned that another Premier League suitor entered the scene recently, but the identity of this club remains undisclosed.

Discussing the transfer saga revolving around Bergvall, he said (via The Spurs Express):

“I spoke with family last night, when they entered the plane in Barcelona to go home. It is still 50-50 between Barcelona and Tottenham.

“Both teams felt really, really good. I think he is having a very rough time deciding, but in a good way.

“Tottenham has been in the picture a long time. Tottenham visited Bergvall in stockholm 10 days ago. Got a very good impression.

“New team entered the bidding this morning, a big team in England, but the family do not want more to think on now.

“Decision is between Barca and Tottenham, 50-50.”

Barcelona have been pursuing Bergvall since the previous month and remain optimistic about securing a deal due to their longstanding interest.

However, Tottenham are actively trying to hijack the deal by maintaining regular contact with the player’s camp. They even visited the young midfielder in Stockholm a few weeks ago, showcasing their determination to bring him into the club’s academy with prospects of future involvement in the senior team.

Their Swedish star Dejan Kulusevski is reportedly trying to convince the player as well.

Tottenham will aim to incorporate the 17-year-old into the club’s academy to offer him opportunities in the senior team in the future.

Bergvall is currently bound by a contract with the Swedish club Djurgardens IF, and the agreement is set to remain in effect until December 2025.

Last season, the central midfielder featured in 25 matches, amassing 984 minutes on the field and scored two goals and provided one assist.

The final decision from the player’s camp is eagerly anticipated, and the next few hours will prove pivotal in determining Bergvall’s destination.
