Injury setback for Spurs: Tottenham man sidelined for 5 more weeks

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury woes persist as backup goalkeeper Fraser Forster remains sidelined with a foot fracture, according to head coach Ange Postecoglou.

The 35-year-old shot-stopper has been out of action since mid-February, with his absence expected to continue for a couple more months. Postecoglou confirmed Forster’s injury, indicating that he sustained the fracture during a training session.

Reports suggest that Forster’s recovery timeline extends until mid-April, leaving Tottenham without their second-choice goalkeeper for the foreseeable future.

Football Insider reports that he could be sidelined for another five weeks, adding to Spurs’ injury concerns.

Forster’s absence has been notable in recent matchday squads, with the Englishman missing the last four games due to his injury.

This setback isn’t the first for Forster this season, as he previously sat out three matches earlier in the campaign due to back problems.

Despite his limited appearances this season, Forster remains an integral part of Tottenham’s squad. The veteran goalkeeper is under contract with the club until June 2023, with an extension signed in December 2022, prolonging his stay until the summer of 2025.

Forster joined Tottenham from Southampton on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, aiming to provide depth in the goalkeeping department.

However, his playing time has been limited, with just one appearance in the ongoing campaign, featuring in the League Cup defeat against Fulham last August.

As Tottenham navigates through their injury challenges, the absence of Forster poses a significant setback, emphasising the importance of a swift recovery for the experienced goalkeeper.
