Ange Postecoglou has urged his Tottenham players to stay committed to ‘Angeball’ despite the growing criticism surrounding his tactics.
Tottenham have managed to make it to the next round of the EFL Cup by defeating Coventry City but their form in the Premier League has been a major concern. The North London club have only secured four points in their first four league outings. They have suffered defeats in their last two outings and Ange Postecoglou has received a lot of criticism because of his tactical approach.
Pundits and fans have both suggested that the extremely high line at the back is causing all the problems for Spurs but according to Sami Mokbel via the Daily Mail, the Australian manager insists they are on the right track, with ‘Angeball’ remaining central to their approach. He has asked his players to stick to his tactics and ignore all the outside noise.
These criticisms are beginning to become noticeable. Postecoglou has been constantly targeted for not having a plan B and sticking to a very high backline which has already cost them during the 2024/25 season. But, the former Celtic boss has privately asked his players to trust him and ignore the outside noise that suggests his tactics are falling apart.
The stubbornness of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte has caused problems at Tottenham in the past and the feeling is that Postecoglou is on the same path. While they have only won one league game so far, the North London club have dominated the proceedings in all four of their league outings. They haven’t been clinical in the final third, which could justify the Australian’s decision to urge his players to stick to his game plan. However, time is running out and if the Spurs don’t turn things around quickly, Postecoglou will be fighting to save his job.
