Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league since joining the club from Atalanta in 2021.
According to former Argentine defender Sergio Vazquez (h/t El Grafico), the 26-year-old central defender should look to join Manchester City and push for major trophies regularly. Vazquez believes that Romero is an exceptional player who deserves to play at the highest level. He is likely to win a lot more with Manchester City.
“He is the best number 2 in the history of Argentine football,” he said.
“We are in the presence of someone who can come out playing, who can burst it, who has presence and who if he has to hit, he hits you. At his age, he is a kid who gives you confidence when the ball comes to him.
“I would like to see him at Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
“We found a central duo for the next ten years. Both (Lisandro) Martínez and Cuti have oriented controls that allow them to reduce the time when giving a pass.”
The defender is a key player for Tottenham and he is one of the leaders of the dressing room. Tottenham will not want to lose him anytime soon and moving to Manchester City or any other club looks highly unlikely. The North London club have an exciting project and they are looking to put together a side capable of pushing for major trophies. They have brought in a charismatic new manager in Ange Postecoglou and they have signed some exciting players as well.
It is evident that they are building for the future and they will want to hold onto their best players. Losing Romero would be a massive blow for Tottenham and they simply cannot afford to sell one of the pillars of their project.
It will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old can help them win trophies next season. He is one of the best defenders in the world and he has recently won the World Cup with his country. He will want to win trophies at the club level as well. It remains to be seen whether Spurs can match up to his ambitions in the coming seasons.
