“I want to stop him” – Aston Villa manager names the Tottenham player that could cause them a problem

Tottenham’s interim manager Ryan Mason has made an instant impact on Tottenham’s performances since taking over from Cristian Stellini three games ago.

His first game was against Manchester United where the players showed renewed attacking spirit and fight to come back from two goals down to draw 2-2.

His second game in charge was against Liverpool and once again despite conceding three early first half goals, they made an incredible come-back to score three goals, the third coming in the stoppage time. But they were unlucky not to come away with anything from the game as a Lucas Moura error a minute later helped Diogo Jota score the winner for Liverpool.

They did bounce back from their defeats with a win over Crystal Palace. The game saw Ryan Mason change his formation, switching to a 4-4-2, which helped Spurs keep a rare clean-sheet. It also saw January signing Pedro Porro take on a new role at right wing, with Emerson Royal playing the traditional right-back.

And Porro was a stand out player in the game putting in a great shift and also assisting Harry Kane’s goal. The Spaniard has been an excellent signing for Spurs. He took a few games to settle but since then has been one of their best players and has added a new attacking threat from the right for Spurs.

Ahead of the crucial game against Aston Villa, their manager Unai Emery has expressed his concerns about Porro, stating that he is playing very well and is a strong player both offensively and defensively.

When asked about the potential battle between Moreno and Porro, he said (via Football London h/t Birmingham Live):

“Yes of course, [Porro] is playing very well. He’s a strong player offensively and defensively. He’ll face Moreno and Digne and I want to stop him and take the challenge with the duels.”

Emery has done a magnificent job at Villa after replacing Steven Gerrard mid-season. Emery has taken them from a team in relegation form to a team who are fighting for a spot in Europe.

The clash between Tottenham and Aston Villa could help decide which team gets to play in Europe next season. Mason’s Tottenham has been impressive in the last three games, and it remains to be seen if they can continue their good form and get another positive result against Aston Villa.
