‘I thought…’: Ange Postecoglou gives his verdict on Radu Dragusin display vs Aston Villa

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur picked up a priceless win over Aston Villa in the Premier League at the weekend.

It was a crucial game in the context of the race for a top-four finish and the victory could prove to be defining in the end.

However, Tottenham were dealt another injury blow as star defender Micky Van de Ven was sidelined with a knock. Tottenham had to bring on January signing Radu Dragusin in his absence. The 21-year-old Romanian defender has not had ample opportunities since joining Tottenham this season, and he will have been delighted to get his first significant opportunity with the London club.

Dragusin did not disappoint and he produced a mature performance for his new club. The defender will be reasonably pleased with his cameo against Aston Villa and he will hope that Tottenham can provide him with more opportunities in the coming weeks.

The true extent of Van de Ven’s injury is yet to be determined but Dragusin is likely to get more opportunities if the Dutch defender is sidelined for a considerable period of time.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has now shared his verdict on the performance of the 21 year-old defender and revealed that he did quite well against the Westlands club.

“I’m not sure, he doesn’t think it’s anything too significant,” said Postecoglou. “So disappointing for him because he was outstanding again up until that point. Great for Radu to come in, his first significant game-time in a big game and I thought he handled it really well,” he added to Football London.

Dragusin is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future. Judging by his performance against Aston Villa, he should be able to establish himself as an important Premier League defender in the coming seasons.
