‘I really enjoyed…’: Former Arsenal star aims dig at Tottenham after Aston Villa defeat

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur crashed to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

Midfielder Giovani Lo Celso handed the North London club a well-deserved lead early on in the game, but goals from Pau Torres and Ollie Watkins turned the game around and helped the West Midlands club secure a morale-boosting win away from home.

Dissecting the game on BBC Match of the Day, former Arsenal striker Theo Walcot aimed a dig at Tottenham. Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins did well to create an opportunity for himself with his movement and running in behind the Tottenham defence. Reacting to his body movement, the 34-year-old revealed that he enjoyed running in behind the Tottenham defence during his days as an Arsenal player.

Walcott’s dig at Tottenham appeared to take the BBC presenter Mark Chapman by surprise as well.

“You know what I really enjoyed is just the slight sort of body movement,” the 34-year-old said (h/t SportBible).

“Because he has been running in behind much the whole game. He has just put Ben Davies in doubt a little bit.

“Ollie wants to come in, but just drops back and gives him that space, and I lived off running in behind Tottenham, so I am pretty happy.”

Chapman responded: “Woah, you have gone early there, Theo!”.

Being a former Arsenal player, it is hardly surprising that he enjoyed Tottenham’s defeat against Aston Villa and took the opportunity to have a slight dig at the North London club.

Tottenham started the season really well but they have been quite vulnerable in recent weeks and they have now lost three Premier League matches in a row. There is no doubt that they have a talented squad, but they are struggling with injuries right now.

It will be interesting to see if Ange Postecoglou can help his players bounce back strongly and get their season back on track once again.
