Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga has had a difficult season at the club so far.
The 23-year-old is highly rated at the London club but he has failed to hold down a regular starting spot under Antonio Conte.
The defender has started just twice in the Premier League this season and he is yet to start a single game in the Champions league.
He was expected to develop into a quality first-team player for Tottenham when he broke through under former manager Jose Mourinho.
Tanganga is capable of playing as a right-back as well as a centre back and his versatility could have made him an indispensable asset for the Londoners.
However, the player has had limited opportunities to showcase his qualities and his development has clearly stalled.
Journalist Ryan Taylor has now revealed to Give Me Sport that the talented young defender has had very few chances to prove his worth and his development has halted because of Antonio Conte’s reluctance to give him opportunities.
Taylor told GMS: “Davinson Sanchez has never been good enough. Japhet Tanganga, I feel sorry for because he’s not had a run of games, his progression was really halted”.
It will be interesting to see if the 23-year-old is allowed to leave at the end of the season.
There is no doubt that Tanganga is a prodigious young talent with a big future ahead of him. He could develop into a quality Premier League player with game time and coaching.
The defender was linked with a loan move away from Tottenham at the start of the season but the Londoners decided to hold on to him.
