Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is currently on loan at Italian club Sampdoria.
The 27-year-old needed to leave in order to play regular first-team football and the loan move has worked out for him so far.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport about his future and his decision to join the Italian club on loan, Winks has revealed that he is currently focused on his loan spell with Sampdoria and he’s not worried about his future.
He added that the decision to join the Italian club has paid dividends for him and he is happy with the game time in Italy.
The player was then asked whether he has had contact with Antonio Conte, to which Winks replied that the Italian manager has not contacted him about his future. He also added that he is unsure about his future after June.
He said (Gazzetta dello Sport): “I have a loan contract until June. I’m satisfied with this experience.
“I don’t know what my future will be after June and I don’t even think about it now.
“I’m only looking at the next match, but I was pleased to have made this choice last year, I’m proud of it.”
Asked whether Antonio Conte has contacted him, Winks added: “No one from Tottenham has contacted me, not even the manager.
“I was and remain totally focused on Sampdoria.”
It remains to be seen whether Winks returns to Tottenham next season. Ideally, he should look to secure a permanent exit from the Premier League club at the end of the season.
He is unlikely to play regularly at Tottenham especially if Antonio Conte stays at the club. The Italian manager will be out of contract in the summer but Tottenham are trying to tie him down to a new deal.
If Conte ends up leaving the club, Winks might fancy his chances of playing at Tottenham under the new manager next season.
