“I believe…” – Jermain Defoe makes interesting Tottenham prediction for this season

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has voiced his optimism about the club’s potential for the upcoming Premier League season, predicting a strong finish for the Lilywhites.

As the sixth-highest goalscorer in Spurs’ history, Defoe’s insights carry weight among the club’s supporters.

Defoe believes that under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham are well-positioned to build on last season’s fifth-place finish, with Champions League qualification a realistic target.

Reflecting on the previous campaign, he attributed the team’s shortfall to unfortunate injuries that disrupted their early momentum.

The club legend is confident that with better luck regarding injuries, Tottenham can secure a top-four finish this season.

Defoe emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy squad, suggesting that fewer setbacks could have allowed Spurs to sustain their early-season form and achieve a Champions League berth.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Defoe acknowledged Manchester City as the favorites to retain the Premier League title but remained optimistic about Spurs’ chances.

He said:

“I think so. I think the first ten games last season, all the signs were there. Then it was just unfortunate with the injuries. If any team gets that many injuries, you’re going to struggle.

“I believe this season, if he can keep all the top players fit, I believe Tottenham get in the top four this year. I really believe that.”

Tottenham have strengthened their squad this summer with significant signings, including Dominic Solanke to lead their attack and young talents like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall to strengthen the midfield.

With these key reinforcements, Defoe’s prediction reflects his belief that Spurs can compete at the highest level and secure a top-four finish this season.
