Tottenham Hotspur’s promising young defender, Ashley Phillips, has set his sights on making a significant contribution at the North London club next season after impressing during his loan spell at Plymouth Argyle.
The English centre-back joined the Championship side Plymouth Argyle on a loan deal earlier in January, with the agreement extending until the end of the season.
Phillips has been leaving a solid impression at his new club, seamlessly integrating into Plymouth’s starting line-up and featuring in 15 games across the Championship and the FA Cup since his arrival.
In an interview with The Athletic as part of the EFL’s Youth Development Week, Phillips expressed his ambition to showcase his abilities and earn a place in the Spurs squad for the upcoming campaign.

He highly-rated centre-back emphasised his desire to push for starting opportunities, particularly in cup competitions, as he aims to leverage his loan experience at Plymouth to catch the eye of the Spurs hierarchy.
He also expressed gratitude towards Plymouth for providing him with regular playing time during his loan stint.
Phillips said:
“I hope from this loan that I can gain trust from the Spurs coaches so I can push to be starting now and again, maybe in cup competitions. I can only thank Plymouth for letting me come down here and get minutes regularly.”
Tottenham secured Ashley Phillips’ services last summer, signing him to a five-year contract after acquiring him from Blackburn Rovers by activating his release clause of £2 million.
The 18-year-old centre-back didn’t feature for Ange Postecoglou’s side this season. However, he did make four appearances for the club’s U21 team in Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
