Hefty quote sees Spurs end interest in Prem-proven striker… for now

By Rob S -

Aleksandar Mitrovic will not be moving to Tottenham this month… but he could remain on the radar pending further interest later in the year.

The Daily Star claims that Spurs and Aston Villa were both eyeing the Fulham frontman for a potential mid-season transfer but have moved on – for now – after being quoted £40m.

However, the same source reports that Mitrovic has a release clause that would become active should Fulham fail to secure promotion to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign. And Spurs are said to be monitoring developments, along with Villa.

Mitrovic is currently in red-hot form, leading the scoring charts in the Championship with 18 goals in 2,330 minutes of game time.

Fulham sit four points behind leaders West Brom and three short of Leeds United in second – with both the teams in the automatic promotion spots having played a game fewer.

Mitrovic has twice been relegated from the Premier League – with Newcastle and Fulham. But 21 goals and seven assists in 77 games – playing in struggling teams – suggests he is capable of mixing it in the top flight.

Levy’s been muddying the waters like this in transfer windows for 20 years. Bale, Koulibaly and so it goes on. Imagine if we had signed a genuine top line striker 5 years ago. Instead Enic put out that no big name strikers will play second fiddle to Harry.

Monitoring developments, showing an interest in, being linked to, sent scouts to watch, expressed an interest in, everything but actually signing players.
