“He only wants” – Alasdair Gold shares interesting update on Tottenham’s plans regarding a free transfer signing

Tottenham Hotspur’s active summer transfer window saw them spend €148.85 million on players like Dominic Solanke, Wilson Odobert, Archie Gray, and Lucas Bergvall.

However, fans hoping for additional reinforcements via free agent signings might be disappointed, as journalist Alasdair Gold has indicated that such moves are unlikely.

During a Q&A on football.london, Gold addressed speculation surrounding potential free agents like Adrien Rabiot.

He explained that Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is not inclined to sign players just to fill gaps, emphasizing that new arrivals must fit his tactical vision for the club’s long-term development.

Gold suggested that unless Tottenham face significant injuries before the Premier League squad registration deadline, the club is unlikely to pursue short-term options through free agents.

Postecoglou’s approach has been consistent, particularly when it came to strengthening the defence, with the manager holding out for players that align with his system.

Gold responded to questions by saying:

“Unless there are any injuries… I’d be surprised if there was a free agent signing. Mainly because Postecoglou is always talking about not signing short-term, stop-gap players… He only wants players that fit his very specific system.”

Names like Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial, and Turkish international Yusuf Yazici have been linked with various clubs, including Spurs, but unless unexpected squad issues arise, Tottenham are unlikely to make any last-minute signings.
